Convergence and integration“Convergence” and “integration” are frequently recurring buzzwords in any debate on the future of the Internet. They refer to the merging of telecommunications, media and information technologies. This integration process is taking place before our eyes – as seen in new products and services like Internet TV and Internet telephony (Voice over IP). The goal of all convergence technologies is simply to provide media services with greater diversity and convenience. None of this would be possible without broadband technology. Packages currently offered by providers in the market combine broadband Internet access, conventional and/or broadband telephone services and broadband entertainment such as IPTV (triple play), sometimes also including mobile telephony (quadruple play).
